I have used Danner for decades and they have always been at the top of heap for serious boots. These boots are no exception when it comes to being built like a tank but there were some things I was a bit surprised about once I started wearing them. Outsoles are very stiff which is good if you need uneven terrain support but not much fun on flat ground. After about 72 hours of straight wear, they are loosening up but for them to get to the hiking grade flex will take a couple of months. Another surprise was I thought these would be more breathable than they are being that they are 80 per cent nylon weave and not a solid chunk of leather but these do not breathe at all. One contributing factor may be the heavy goretex lining which makes them completely waterproof but i figured that they would use a looser weave in what equates to a desert boot styling and texture. These two considerations may not ruin the sale for you but for me it complicated things a little when I believed I could make certain assumptions from the styling of these boots. Danner has always made THE BEST boots and these are no exception but just keep my surprises in mind before you jump on these.
