First, be aware that even though these are listed as "wide calf", the actual circumference width will change depending on your shoe size. A size 6, for example, might have a 16 inch circumference, and a size 9 could be over 17. Also keep in mind that the circumference measurement is for the part at the very top, widest part of the boot.

For reference: I am an 8.5 or 9, depending on the shoe, and I almost always wear a regular width, but my feet do tend towards the wide side. I ordered these boots in an 8.5 and found them quite tight. I could get my feet into them with difficulty, but it wasn't ideal. I'd therefore say that if you are in between sizes like me, opt for the larger size with these boots. I could have easily gone for a 9 or even a 9 wide, I believe (and would have if Amazon had them available!).

The calf on these: Very narrow. My calf measurement is exactly 17inches. I measured the circumference on these boots and they are also exactly 17 inches. So they should have fit, right? Not quite. The mid-shaft of this boot is quite narrow, so I could only zip them up so far, despite the fact that at the top, widest part, of the boot, they fit my calf. To clarify, I think that if your lower leg is quite thin up to the calf muscle - and then a large, bulging calf, these will work for you. If, however, you have sturdy peasant legs that grow proportionally wider from ankle to calf I believe you will find that these will be difficult to zip beyond the mid shaft of your lower leg.

All of that said, these are beautiful boots! I ordered them in brown and they are gorgeous. But not a good fit for me.
